J.C. Penney Closing Coon Rapids Location

We learned late this week that a major retailer in Coon Rapids is closing its doors as it restructures after filing bankruptcy last month.

On Thursday, J.C. Penney announced that it is shuttering 154 stores across the nation including four here in Minnesota, one being the Riverdale location in Coon Rapids.  Store closing sales are expected to being June 12.

The company plans to reduce its store footprint and refocus resources on its strongest stores as well as e-commerce.  Another 90 stores are expected to close in the months ahead bringing the total closures to about 30 percent of all J.C. Penney stores.

The other stores closing in Minnesota are located in Maple Grove, Eden Prairie and Willmar.
