Coon Rapids High School students and staff held a special celebration on November 11, recognizing local military veterans and their families. It had been several years since the school had held a Veterans Day event but Assistant Principal Curt Wallrath said it would become a new tradition.
“In thinking about how we wanted to make this celebration unique to our community and our school. The word that kept coming up was family,” said Wallrath.
Family members of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen and Marines can go months or longer without being able to visit their loved ones.
“When you’re looking at days like this, think about the families and think about the kids and maybe go up to them and give them a hug and let them know you’re thinking about them,” said Assistant Principal Kelley Scott.
Veterans from all branches of the armed service branches were in attendance and received thunderous applause from staff and students.
