Longtime Communications Chief Retires from National Sports Center

After more than 28 years with the National Sports Center in Blaine, Chief Communications Officer Barclay Kruse has retired. Friends and colleges gathered on October 3rd for a retirement party at the Victory Links Golf Course.

Kruse said his job was rewarding but also demanding, “…this is a hard job, long hours. Sports events happen on evenings and weekends so it’s not just a nine to five job. People at the sports center are really really passionate about what we do here and I think it shows in the quality of our events and it’s been an honor for me to work with them.” Said Kruse.

During his years at the National Sports Center Kruse saw the campus nearly quadruple in size.

“The Super Rink wasn’t here, the golf course Victory Lakes wasn’t here. All the soccer fields on the north side of 105th were not here,” Kruse said.

In retirement, Kruse says he’s looking forward to finally having a summer off and enjoying more hiking, skiing, canoeing and biking.

“You may see me heading off to Europe to see some of the legendary bike races,” he said.
