Local Businesses Take Part in 'Small Business Saturday'

Towns and cities across the country encouraged its residents to explore and shop local businesses on November 24th. A nationwide shopping holiday called “Small Business Saturday” had stores on Anoka’s main street crowded with shoppers.

“These weekends are really important to us,” said Laura Werk with Jenson’s Department store, “This event is important because it provides jobs in our community and it give back to our community and it gives small businesses a chance to grow.”

This past November, Jenson’s Department story marked its 80th year in business.

The Floer family arrived in downtown Anoka before most stores were open to take advantage of the one-day discounts.

“We started at the craft store up the road and keep making our way this way, got me a sweet new purse, got to shop for myself you know,” said Brittany Floer.

The Small Business Administration says small businesses employ about half of U.S. workers.
