Anoka County Marks Memorial Day with Special Services

The veterans’ organizations of Anoka County held Memorial Day Ceremonies on May 26th.

The first was held at Morningside Memorial Gardens and then at Bunker Hills Park.

“We do more than carry on a tradition that dates back to 1866, we also fulfill a commitment we have made to our fallen soldiers,” said Dr. James R. Tuorila to a large crowd gathered in front of the Veterans Memorial. Dr. Tuorila is a Clinical Psychologist who works with veterans.

“From the earliest days of America’s founding our great nation has been blessed with generation after generation of patriots willing to lay down their lives in defense of freedom and a way of life. We are truly truly blessed and fortunate to live in a country worth fighting for to be afforded a way of life worth dying for,” Dr. Tuorila said.

Following the Memorial Day service, the Anoka County Veterans Council hosted a family picnic at Bunker Hills Park.
