Build a NEW park: Boulevard Plaza

“Boulevard Plaza” is officially the new name of the area and grounds featuring the city’s first splash pad and a brand new park. The location of Boulevard Plaza at 11000 Crooked Lake Boulevard, has become a community gathering place, hosting several city events including the Coon Rapids 4th of July Community Celebration, the Farmers Market in the summer, public skating events year-round and other special activities at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.

The Splash Pad and park will officially open Tuesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Grand Opening Celebration. Read more about this event.

The park project was possible thanks to funding from the Park Bond approved by voters in 2013.

Other Improvements:

  • Complete sidewalk gaps and renovate other neighborhood parks using Parks Improvement Fund dollars (this has been ongoing)
  • For 2018, work is underway to close sidewalk gaps in the area on the north side of Coon Rapids Blvd. adjacent to the WCCO water tower; a segment on 115th Avenue, west of University Ave.; miscellaneous small gaps on the north side of Coon Rapids Blvd. between the City of Anoka and Hanson Blvd.
  • Complete several trail connections including Coon Creek Regional Trail, Sand Creek Linkage Trail, 85th Avenue Trail connection to Kennedy Park, Mississippi Regional Trail, Middle Linkage Trail, Northern Linkage Trail and other select gaps
(Read about trail improvements in menu at left.)

Construction of the parks listed above is occurring over a 6 to 8 year period, starting in 2015. The work is being done in a phased approach to avoid having major portions of the City's parks system torn up and reconstructed at the same time.
