Summer Community Ed. Classes Offer Something for Everyone

The Anoka-Hennepin Community Education Program is keeping kids of all ages busy this summer through their wide variety of programs, activities and classes.

This week two 8-year-old boys get to build and program Lego cars.

"It's a program that just keeps going until this gets to 10 seconds, then it stops," says Ben Olson, 8.

One of the classes offered during Anoka-Hennepin's summer youth enrichment and community schools programs is robotics, and Frankie Kuehn and Ben Olson have been loving every minute.

Kids from preschool through 8th grade are invited to attend a wide variety of classes, from archery, to musical theatre, and much more.

"It's really an opportunity for them to bridge their learning from the school year into the summer and pursue passions they may have that they can build additional skills for," says Sandra Bengston, Community Services Program Supervisor.

This summer, a new option has been added for parents who are looking to keep their kids busy while they work.

"We have a lunch bunch that bridges our morning and afternoon classes for those families who may not have transportation or maybe working during the day as well as scholarships for families who wouldn't normally be able to afford the program," says Bengston.

The programs will run through the beginning of August and hope to provide opportunities for kids to learn and grow-even in the summer.
