Primary Election – Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 (Polls open - 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Pre-registration deadline –  Tuesday, July 24, 2018

General Election – Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018 (Polls open - 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Pre-registration deadline –Tuesday, October 16, 2018

The 2018 elections will include various federal, state, county, judicial and local offices.  

Municipal Election
In conjunction with the State General Election, Coon Rapids will hold its municipal election Nov. 6, 2018.  For Coon Rapids City Council, the following vacancies will be on the ballot: Mayor, Ward 3 and Ward 5. Terms for these Council positions are four years beginning Jan.1, 2019 and ending Dec. 31, 2022.

People interested in running for office must file an Affidavit of Candidacy and pay a $10 filing fee with the City Clerk's office at City Hall, 11155 Robinson Drive, Coon Rapids, MN 55433.  The first day to file an Affidavit of Candidacy is May 22, the last day to file is June 5. Office hours are 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

To file for office, an individual must meet the following requirements:

  • At least 21 years of age upon assuming office;
  • Reside within the ward for at least 30 days before the general election; Mayor is elected City-wide; and
  • Eligible to vote (citizen of U.S., residence in MN for 20 days, not convicted of a felony without having civil rights restored, not under guardianship of the person where have not retained the right to vote, not found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote);
  • Not filed for the same or any other office at the upcoming primary or general election.
